This page lists 76 PlayStation 2 (PS2) ROMs, sorted by how often each one is downloaded. The PS2 was released by Sony in 2000. The games archived here originally came out between 1997 and 2012.
The most common genres in this library are Action, Fighting, Role-Playing and Sports. The most downloaded titles right now are God of War, Dragon Ball Z - Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and God of War II.
To play these files you need a PS2 emulator — PCSX2 is the one most people use. Each download below is a game file, not the emulator itself.

About the PlayStation 2
The PlayStation 2 is the best-selling game console ever made, with over 155 million units sold across a lifespan that ran from 2000 to 2013. Its DVD playback mattered as much as its games at launch, putting a disc player in millions of homes that could not otherwise justify one.
Its library is enormous — well over 10,000 titles — and it spans the moment the industry finished its transition to 3D. Almost every long-running franchise has a defining entry here.
Choosing a PS2 emulator
PCSX2 is the only serious option on desktop, and it has improved substantially in recent years. The move to a unified release and a rewritten graphics backend fixed compatibility problems that had persisted for a decade.
PS2 emulation is genuinely demanding. A modern mid-range CPU handles most of the library, but the hardware's unusual architecture means single-thread performance matters more than core count.
The BIOS requirement
Unlike the PSP or SNES, PCSX2 will not run without a PlayStation 2 BIOS image. This is not an optional accuracy improvement — it is required to boot anything.
The BIOS must be dumped from a console you own, and it is region-specific. PCSX2 documents the dumping process; the file is not distributed with the emulator for legal reasons.
File formats and disc images
PS2 games appear as .iso, .bin/.cue pairs or .chd. CHD is a compressed format that PCSX2 reads directly and that typically saves substantial space on dual-layer DVD titles.
Because PS2 discs hold up to 8.5GB, a full library is large. CHD compression is the practical answer rather than an optimisation.
Frequently asked questions
- Why will PCSX2 not start my game?
- The most common cause by far is a missing or incorrectly configured BIOS. PCSX2 requires a real PS2 BIOS image before it will boot anything at all.
- What hardware do I need for PS2 emulation?
- A modern CPU with strong single-thread performance matters more than a powerful GPU for most titles, though upscaling beyond the native resolution shifts the load toward the graphics card.
- Can PS2 games run on Android?
- AetherSX2 brought PS2 emulation to Android, though its development has since stopped. Performance depends heavily on the device and varies considerably across the library.
